Academic Shoot Preview Assignment

The Story

I think this photo tells the best story because the students have joined together in a circle to pray. This looks very calming and the students are being respectful and they are being recognized for their beliefs and religion.

Action and Emotion

This picture shows a lot of action and emotion. The two girls are doing an experiment probably in their science class and they look very happy and amused because of all the bubbles floating in the air around them.

Filling the Frame

This picture is very interesting because of the way the students and the teacher are interacting. You wont see this happening in most schools and classrooms. I think this picture is very unique and funny. 

Part 2

My favorite picture was the "Junior Year" photo. This picture was black and white and looked like a fish eye effect. The picture was taken from a birds eye view and you can see the student sitting and reading.

1. I liked this picture because it was black and white. Another thing I liked about this picture was that it looked like it was taken with some sort of fish eye camera or lens. 

2. One Rule of Composition shin in this picture was simplicity. Since the photo was black and white the background was very plain. 

Part 3

1. I think I could take a picture similar to this in a library or classrooms with fun teachers. 

2. I would like to to pictures in the library and in biology class rooms when they are doing labs. 

3. I will follow the rules of composition and I will take pictures of people interacting with others. 

Great Black and White Photos Part 2

Edward Steichen

Edward Steichen was a very famous photographer. He was born on March 27, 1879 in born Bivange, Luxembourg and died on March 25, 1973.   He attended Academie Julian and studied painting. Some of his jobs included being a director. He also worked for Vanity Fair and Vogue were he took pictures of celebrities and fashion. Aside from being a photographer he published books and he painted. He was most known for taking portraits of famous people in that time. One of his most famous portraits he took were the portraits of  Winston Churchill and Audrey Hepburn. 

Photo Manipulation

A.   April 1st is portrait day for the new cabinet in Israel. Manahem Kahana was the photographer taking the pictures for the new cabinet. Someone working for the newspaper used photoshop. The person removed the female ministers and replaced them with men .

B.   I don't think this type of photo editing is acceptable. I don't think it is right to photo shop a person out of the photo and replace them with other people, especially if they are different genders. People can take that personally and react to it.

I think this photo was the most unethical. This photoshopped version makes it seem as if the soldier was about to point the gun at the man and child.

 

I think this photo was the least unethical. The photoshopped version of this photo just removed the pole that was behind the teachers head.

1. I think you did a really good job of following the prompts. 

2. The square and happy pictures are really nice. I think they are unique and not a lot of people would take those pictures for square and happy.

3. On the Bowie picture, I think you can improve on the simplicity of the background. But other than that I think these photos are great.

1. When i was trying to take pictures of my 4 prompts there were a few challenges. One of them was trying to find a good angle of the subject. Another challenge was trying to figure what to take a picture of because I didn't want to take a picture of some thing really obvious, so I had to be creative and take pictures of something that you would not see in everyone's picture. I also found it kind of hard to get the main subject to really stand out and getting a good background.

2. I found it kind of difficult to focus on the main subject and not the things in the background. Another thing that was difficult was framing. It was difficult because I didn't know how much I should zoom in and out and.

3. If I could go back and re do this shoot, I would really focus on simplicity and The Rule of Thirds. I would make sure to find a good background that would not interact with the main subject. For the Rule of Thirds, I would focus on not getting the subject right in the middle. I could move the camera around to find a good angle.

4. I would take pictures of the same subject. But this time I would really work on the things I mentioned above.

5. On the "square" picture I think I achieved the simplicity rule. The background was just plain green plants and the sign really stood out and did not interact with the thinks in the background. On the "metal" picture I achieved the balance rule.

6. I would like to shoot these same prompts again. I would like to do this so we can try focusing and using the rules of composition the next time.

Avoiding Mergers

 I chose this picture for avoiding mergers. I chose this picture because the subject really stands out due to the plain background. I think this is a good example, but might not be the best because the main subject is interacting with the background.

Framing

I chose this picture for framing. The reason I chose this picture was because the 9-11 memorial is equally framed and the buildings surrounding it make it look kind of like a frame. This picture was the best I could find to show framing and I think the picture does a really good job of showing this.
