Academic Shoot Preview Assignment

The Story
I think this photo tells the best story because the students have joined together in a circle to pray. This looks very calming and the students are being respectful and they are being recognized for their beliefs and religion.

Action and Emotion
This picture shows a lot of action and emotion. The two girls are doing an experiment probably in their science class and they look very happy and amused because of all the bubbles floating in the air around them.

Filling the Frame
This picture is very interesting because of the way the students and the teacher are interacting. You wont see this happening in most schools and classrooms. I think this picture is very unique and funny.

Part 2
My favorite picture was the "Junior Year" photo. This picture was black and white and looked like a fish eye effect. The picture was taken from a birds eye view and you can see the student sitting and reading.

1. I liked this picture because it was black and white. Another thing I liked about this picture was that it looked like it was taken with some sort of fish eye camera or lens.

2. One Rule of Composition shin in this picture was simplicity. Since the photo was black and white the background was very plain.

Part 3
1. I think I could take a picture similar to this in a library or classrooms with fun teachers.
2. I would like to to pictures in the library and in biology class rooms when they are doing labs.
3. I will follow the rules of composition and I will take pictures of people interacting with others.

Great Black and White Photos Part 2

Edward Steichen
Edward Steichen was a very famous photographer. He was born on March 27, 1879 in born Bivange, Luxembourg and died on March 25, 1973.   He attended Academie Julian and studied painting. Some of his jobs included being a director. He also worked for Vanity Fair and Vogue were he took pictures of celebrities and fashion. Aside from being a photographer he published books and he painted. He was most known for taking portraits of famous people in that time. One of his most famous portraits he took were the portraits of  Winston Churchill and Audrey Hepburn.

Photo Manipulation

A.   April 1st is portrait day for the new cabinet in Israel. Manahem Kahana was the photographer taking the pictures for the new cabinet. Someone working for the newspaper used photoshop. The person removed the female ministers and replaced them with men .

B.   I don't think this type of photo editing is acceptable. I don't think it is right to photo shop a person out of the photo and replace them with other people, especially if they are different genders. People can take that personally and react to it.

I think this photo was the most unethical. This photoshopped version makes it seem as if the soldier was about to point the gun at the man and child.

I think this photo was the least unethical. The photoshopped version of this photo just removed the pole that was behind the teachers head.

post shoot reflection

http://vivs21.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2014-09-16T16:01:00-07:00&max-results=7

1. I think you did a really good job of following the prompts.

2. The square and happy pictures are really nice. I think they are unique and not a lot of people would take those pictures for square and happy.

3. On the Bowie picture, I think you can improve on the simplicity of the background. But other than that I think these photos are great.

post photo shoot reflection

1. When i was trying to take pictures of my 4 prompts there were a few challenges. One of them was trying to find a good angle of the subject. Another challenge was trying to figure what to take a picture of because I didn't want to take a picture of some thing really obvious, so I had to be creative and take pictures of something that you would not see in everyone's picture. I also found it kind of hard to get the main subject to really stand out and getting a good background.

2. I found it kind of difficult to focus on the main subject and not the things in the background. Another thing that was difficult was framing. It was difficult because I didn't know how much I should zoom in and out and.

3. If I could go back and re do this shoot, I would really focus on simplicity and The Rule of Thirds. I would make sure to find a good background that would not interact with the main subject. For the Rule of Thirds, I would focus on not getting the subject right in the middle. I could move the camera around to find a good angle.

4. I would take pictures of the same subject. But this time I would really work on the things I mentioned above.

5. On the "square" picture I think I achieved the simplicity rule. The background was just plain green plants and the sign really stood out and did not interact with the thinks in the background. On the "metal" picture I achieved the balance rule.

6. I would like to shoot these same prompts again. I would like to do this so we can try focusing and using the rules of composition the next time.

Avoiding Mergers

I chose this picture for avoiding mergers. I chose this picture because the subject really stands out due to the plain background. I think this is a good example, but might not be the best because the main subject is interacting with the background.

Framing

I chose this picture for framing. The reason I chose this picture was because the 9-11 memorial is equally framed and the buildings surrounding it make it look kind of like a frame. This picture was the best I could find to show framing and I think the picture does a really good job of showing this.

Balance

I chose this picture for balance. The reason I chose this picture was, because everything looks equal.  There is a plain background which makes the main subject stand out even more. Everything in the picture is as balanced and equal as it can be.

Lines

I chose this picture for lines. This picture shows lines in many ways. There are lines on the building. There are also lines of smoke coming coming out of the building. I thought this was a good example of lines, because of all the multiple ways lines are shown in this picture.

The Rule of Thirds

I chose this picture for the rule of Thirds. I chose this picture because the person is not just in the middle of the picture. The person is more to the side and you can see where he/she is going. There is more space to the right of the person which really helps show the rule of thirds.

Simplicity

I chose this picture for simplicity. The reason I chose this picture was because it has a plain background of the sky. You can clearly see the main subject, the building and the falling plane. The main subject stands out and that is why I think this picture is a good example to show simplicity.

Touching People

1. I think this project was very cool and super unique. I thought it was  interesting how the results came out.
2. I would probably ask a few questions because I wouldn't really know what i was getting into. After I would probably put my arm around the other person.
3. A photo shoot similar to this would be to ask random people you see to hug and then I would take a picture of them.
4. I thought the pictures were good. They were pretty funny seeing random people touch each other awkwardly.

top 40 photos

Yomiuri Shimbun/ Reuters
 1. I picked this photo because I thought it was a really good shot and it makes you feel happy for the little girl.
2. The picture made me focus on the little girl and her blanket because it was right in the middle and naturally my eyes went to look at that.
3. I think this picture made the top 40 because it really shows something happy and it was the perfect shot.

Marc Riboud
 1. I chose this picture because there was so much negativity around but this women placed a flower on one of the guard's bayonets. This eventually became the symbol of the flower power movement.

2. The picture is focused on the main part of it but the rest was kind of blurred out so it really draws more attention to the flower and the women.
3. I think this picture made the top 40 because it shows something positive ( the women placing the flower) when something negative was happening.

Mark Padrew / Reuters
1. I chose this photo because the koala was so cute and the man was helping the koala and giving it water to drink.
2. The photographer did a really good job on focusing on the man and the koala. It didn't focus on anything else which made the main subject stand out.
3. I think this photo made the top 40 because it shows a person helping out an animal. This picture shows and act of kindness.

Warm Up

1. I thought this idea was very unique and interesting. I have never seen this before so I thought it was a very cool idea.
2. I didn't figure out what it actually was until I took a few seconds and I saw the eyebrows of the person.
3. Sometime maybe I can try something unique like this when I am with a lot of people and i have camera available.

Camera History Answers

The Camera:
1. The "Camera Obscura" is Latin for "dark room". The whole in the wall was like a lens, it focused and projected light in to the opposite wall.
2. Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens invented the high quality glass lenses.
3. A glass lens, a dark box, and film were the parts of the first modern camera.
4. Modern digital camera and Niepce's camera are similar because light passes through the lens and into the camera to make a photograph.
5. Digital cameras now use digital film to capture an image.

Camera Modes:
6. In Auto Mode the camera will control the flash and exposure but in Program Mode the you control the flash.
7. The Portrait mode is used to blur out the background. The camera will use the fastest lens available.
8. Sports mode is made to freeze motion, the camera will use the highest shutter speed to do so.

The Half Press:
9. A half press will tell the camera to be prepared. Then the focus lock will focus on the object and the faster full-press response will "shutter lag".

Controlling Flash:
10. This symbol lets you disable the flash. You would use this when natural lighting is being used.
11.  This symbol will automatically flash when the camera thinks the photo needs more light. You would use this when the lighting is darker.

Introduction to Exposure:
12. If there is too much light the picture will look washed out.
13. if there is not enough light the picture will be too dark.

The Universal Stop:
14. A stop is a measurement of light.
15. The new planet is 1 stop away.
16. The new planet is 2 stops away.

Shutters and Aperture:
17. The longer shutter speeds have more light.
18. The shorter shutter speeds have less light.
19. The aperture controls the light before it reaches the film.
20. You can increase the amount of light by larger openings.

Best Picture of Skyler

This is my favorite picture of Skyler. This was taken in side of the school building. I like this picture because it is simple but it still looks nice.

Best Picture of Reagan

This is my favorite picture of Reagan. I like this picture because it is not a picture that you will see every where. It shows plants and the tree in the back ground and I think that it adds to the picture and makes it look nice.
